What is History of Smoke?
Launched in 2022, History of Smoke is a curated exhibition from Goodson Gallery dedicated to preserving and celebrating the global history of smoking culture. This one-of-a-kind collection features original antique pipes, ceremonial hookahs, rare rolling papers, and vintage smoking artifacts from across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.
Each item is hand-selected not just for its rarity or aesthetic appeal, but for its ability to tell a story—stories of ritual, tradition, design, and global connection. From opium pipes of the 1800s to handcrafted hookahs, each piece offers a glimpse into the social and spiritual roles smoking tools once played across cultures and time periods.
Originally debuted in Dallas-Fort Worth, the collection has been featured at respected smoke shops and events throughout Texas, drawing attention from collectors, historians, and curious minds. Online, History of Smoke continues to grow in reach, offering global viewers access to a museum-quality archive of tobacciana and smoking ephemera.
