Description
“Space Orbit” is one of the first-generation robot sculptures made by Alabama artist Jeff Deroche, created in the early 2000s during the beginning of his journey into found-object sculpture.
This character-rich robot is built from vintage electronics, machine parts, and salvaged hardware—featuring a clear capsule head with a circuit board brain and colorful wiring. Its chrome-like arms and spring legs give it a sturdy, upright stance and a retro-futuristic personality, making it feel like something out of a 1950s sci-fi lab.
Although this piece is not signed, the sale and transfer have been fully documented on video by Goodson Gallery, certifying its authenticity and its place in Jeff Deroche’s artistic journey. The recording serves as provenance and part of the artist’s growing story as both a folk sculptor and respected tattoo artist from Alabama.
With over two decades of work and hundreds of robots and ray guns now behind him, this early piece is a rare glimpse into where it all started.
